Carson, CA. – Legendary NFL coach Mike Martz seeks to defend his 2016 National Team title against former NFL player and coach Jim Zorn’s American Team at StubHub Center on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills Saturday, January 21st. Martz a seasoned coach in the NFL as an offensive coordinator and head coach of the Rams from 2000-2005, will lead Team National players and offer his wisdom from a successful career in organizations such as the Rams, Redskins, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears.
Taking the reins of Team American is Jim Zorn who has played and coached in the NFL. Zorn brings experience from both on the field and the sideline. A second team All-Pro honor as quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks, the California native went on to serve as an assistant coach for the Seahawks before coaching the Redskins in 2008 and 2009. Zorn also coached with the Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, and in college at Boise State, Utah State and Minnesota.
Founded in 2012, the annual NFLPA Collegiate Bowl gives prospective players the best opportunity to showcase their talents to potential employers and fans. Nearly 200 scouts, player personnel staff, general managers and head coaches from all 32 NFL teams are expected be in attendance to watch live practices, conduct player interviews and review tape. Participants in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl have the unique opportunity to network with and learn from current and former NFL players. These veterans provide players with first-hand insight on what it takes to win on and off the field. Since its inception, many players have gone on to begin careers in professional football, with notable Collegiate Bowl alumni including Seattle Seahawks quarterback Trevone Boykin (2016 alum), San Diego Chargers linebacker Jatavis Brown (2016), Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Chris Conley (2015) and Oakland Raiders punter Marquette King (2012).
University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) will have two players represented in the game. Nate Iese TE and Eli Ankou DT will both play for Team National.
Team Nation and Team American will hold practices on Wednesday January 18th and Thursday January 19th at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA. The Jan. 21 game will be broadcast by Fox Sports on FS1 with kickoff slated for 1:15 p.m. PST/4:15 p.m. EST.
