High Five Victory

The LA Galaxy faced off against Real Salt Lake on Saturday April 23rd at the StubHub Center where the match began in total favor for the LA Galaxy, for they were given a penalty kick early in the first half. Steven Gerrard stepped up to take the penalty kick only to see his shot be saved by Real Salt Lake starting goalkeeper Nick Rimando who celebrated his 400th MLS match appearance. Minutes later Real Salt Lake would take the lead of a set piece opportunity, against an LA Galaxy defense that did not pressure in order to prevent the long ball service from being delivered from the right flank of the field. That would result in a defensive communication breakdown for the LA Galaxy and a goal for Real Salt Lake in the fifteen minute scored by Juan Manuel “Burrito” Martinez. Not only was that a rude awakening to the LA Galaxy, but motivation to possess and move the ball better towards finding the equalizing goal in which came true.   Continue reading High Five Victory

The LA Galaxy faced off against the Portland Timbers on Sunday April 10 in the StubHub Center. The match was well dictated by the LA Galaxy who was not successful in going through a well compact and positioned Portland Timbers defense. Much of the attack from the LA Galaxy came from the flanks, specifically from 23 year old midfielder Sebastian Lletget. Throughout the match, he would take on defenders dribbling and occupying the space from the flanks which led him to deliver short or long diagonal passes to the LA Galaxy offense who were well prevented from scoring by the Timbers defense. Gyasi Zardes also stepped creating offensive damage, such as in one play where he dribbled the ball rapidly to the penalty box but was then tackled down just outside of the penalty box awarding the LA Galaxy a free kick that was not capitalized but defended well by the Portland Timbers.
